Flight instruction in Akron & Northeast Ohio

Pilots in Akron, Canton, Kent, and across Northeast Ohio can train with an independent CFI/CFII in their own aircraft or one they have access to. If you'd rather not join a flight school, you can do private, instrument, or commercial training, flight reviews, or an IPC one on one.

Wince Flight Instruction is based in Parkersburg, WV. Akron is about three hours north of Parkersburg on I-77, and Noah Wince, an FAA Certified Flight Instructor and Instrument Instructor (CFI/CFII), serves pilots throughout Northeast Ohio, including Akron, Canton, and Kent.

Airports and local flying

Northeast Ohio has a dense mix of towered and non-towered airports under the Akron-Canton and Cleveland airspace, plus lake-effect weather off Lake Erie. That's useful practice for instrument students and for any pilot keeping current.

Nearby airports where instruction can be arranged:

  • Akron Fulton International Airport (AKR), Akron
  • Akron-Canton Airport (CAK), North Canton
  • Kent State University Airport (1G3), Stow

Keep your airplane somewhere else? Instruction can be arranged at the airport where your aircraft is based.

Travel

How lessons outside Parkersburg work

Travel is discussed and agreed on before anything is scheduled, so you know the cost up front. To keep travel costs down, lessons are often grouped into longer sessions or back-to-back days. Weather and aircraft availability are confirmed before each trip.

Do you instruct in Northeast Ohio?

Yes. Instruction is available at Akron Fulton, Akron-Canton, Kent State, and other Northeast Ohio airports in your own aircraft or one you have authorized access to. Because of the distance from Parkersburg, lessons are usually grouped into multi-day blocks, and travel is quoted before scheduling.

Can I do instrument training in my own plane in Northeast Ohio?

Yes. Instrument rating training and instrument proficiency checks can be done in your aircraft, as long as it is equipped and approved for the training. We'll go over your aircraft and avionics before the first lesson.
